War Dead Cemeteries

The Dead of Two World WarsThe blood of Lurgan, Portadown and district men and women has been spilt all over the world in conflicts to uphold the values of freedom and liberty for all. Their sacrifice can never be repaid, but we hope in some small way to honour them in the pages of this website.

There is a 'corner of a foreign field' that marks the last resting place of our fallen heroes. Some only have references on panels or piers, because their bodies were never recovered, others were shipped home wounded, only to die and be buried in their family plots. In every major conflict of both World Wars you will find a man from Lurgan, Portadown and District in the thick of it. The area proudly played it's part and gave up it's men.

The aim of this War Dead Cemeteries section is to show the living an image of their ancestors last resting place, in the hopes that it will bring them a little closer and give them a glimpse of what they went through so that we can live in freedom. The descriptions of the cemeteries and for whom and why they were created has been provided in most cases by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission and we thank them for their permission to publish them here. The list is by no means complete and is an on-going project, which will be added to over time.

The Search engine below contains the Names, Rank, Number, Age, Cemetery, Date Died, War and Regiment etc of those brave men and women from Lurgan and District who laid down their lives in two World Wars.

The information on this website is free and will always be so. However, there are many documents and records that we would like to show here that are only available for sale. If you would like to make a donation to the Lurgan Ancestry project, however small (or large!), to enable us to acquire these records, it would be very much appreciated. We could cover our pages in Goggle Ads to raise money, but feel that this would detract from the information we are trying to provide. You can also help us to raise money by purchasing some of our ebooks on our sister website: www.genealogyebooks.com

The Lurgan Ancestry Project is a not for profit website, all monies raised from the site go back into it.
