Slaters National Commercial Directory of Ireland

Brownlow House

This superb book includes a full commercial directory for the entire country. Organised by Province, and then town, it lists all the principal office holders, gentry, professionals, trades, hotels, schools, public institutions, churches, and even pubs for each town in Ireland. Slater took over Pigot's important publication of commercial directories of Ireland, and this was the first instalment. It has almost twice as much detail as its predecessor (published in 1824), and is now an extremely rare item. The book is organised into four sections, by province, with additional details for the four main cities:

Slaters's directory goes through the towns of Ireland alphabetically. It lists a detailed description of the town or city, post office information and shows the names of nobility and gentry living in or close to the town. The traders of each town are arranged according to their trade. Slater's directory contains some additional information that is not found in the Pigot's Directory

We are currently building a database of names in all of the directories shown here, but as you can probably imagine, this is a mammoth task and we are adding new names daily. You can search through the names available in the search engine below. If you have any records for the Lurgan area that you would like us to publish here, please contact us via the link below.

We make this information freely available to genealogists and Family Historians, but at no time may this information be used on a pay site or sold for profit.
