Son of John Christopher and Bridget Josephine O’Reilly of North Street, Lurgan.

Gerald O’Reilly’s father, John C. O’Reilly, led the recruitment drive for members of the Lurgan battalion of the Irish National Volunteers, to enlist in the British army, approximately 800 Irish National Volunteers from Lurgan would answer the call and serve during the war.
